Once you’ve got your Trade Depot in place, it’s time to get trading. Same here- outside has been working great for me. This is where the Trade Caravan will set up shop and allow trading goods. This can easily be done from your Build Menu. You’ll need to wait for a Merchant to visit you. You will need to have a Trade Depot before you can have any traders visit and trade goods in Dwarf Fortress. Finally, click Trade, and a new window will open, enabling you to barter with the Merchant. Select the Trade Depot and click Move goods to/from depot and transport goods from your Stockpiles to your depot. In this case, when you deconstruct a trading outpost in use, it counts as you robbing the entire caravan. To trade, build a Trade Depot, then assign a Broker to it. I select one copper pick listed for 4 (or 40), depending on the graphics set I have a devil of a time figuring out the zeros sometimes.
